If you choose to package your shipment yourself, Shyp's warehouse technicians will not open or repackage your items in most cases. They may open your shipment if they suspect it contains a restricted item or they may choose to repackage it if they feel it will not arrive to its destination safely. In accordance with our terms, Shyp reserves the right to open and inspect all shipments.
If you choose to use your own packaging, you assume full responsibility for your package's contents and safety while in transit. Self-packaged items are not covered by Shyp's guarantee.
Tips for packaging items yourself
1. Choosing the right box
You'll want to select a box that comfortably fits all of your items while leaving enough room to add cushioning. For heavier items, choose a double-walled box. If you're reusing a box, be sure to remove any old labels and ensure it's free from any dents, holes, or tears.
You'll want to add enough cushioning to your shipment so that items cannot move around inside the box. You can choose to use bubble wrap, styrofoam pellets, or bunched-up paper. Fragile items should be wrapped in their own protection in addition to this.
3. Seal it tight!
You should seal your box with packaging tape (not duct tape or masking tape) that is at least 2 inches wide across all flaps and seams.
